FACTORY NETWORK PLAN

Bevan Machinery has developed a proficient factory networking plan that encompasses future-readiness, support and security. Bevan Machinery foundationally started by looking at the devices that would need to be networked, then extended the plan to network the entire factory. This model will ensure that Bevan Machinery’s factory remains a leader in its field, as well as reduce; lead time, design costs and engineering coats. An additional benefit of this factory network is total quality management, from inspection to sampling, monitoring, production control systems and logistics systems.

Part 1:

  • Bevan Machinery looked at devices’ applications and functional requirements. This layer is the base of the factory and the front-line equipment, it encompasses sensors, drives, actuators, robots etc. These are the devices that are crucial to the factory network and to be an effective factory.

  • The plan was developed with future-readiness as a key building block, this was a fundamental focus of the plan. Built into the plan is the capability of the network to adapt to possible changes in technology and systems updates. A key aspect in being future-ready is having flexibility built into your network. This flexibility will allow the factory network to adapt and change over time.

  • Next, Bevan Machinery looked at the topology that would best suit the needs of our factory. There are many different options to choose from here, but Bevan Machinery decided to go for fully connected “hybrid mesh” topology, that offered the best all-round outcomes for our factory’s needs. A benefit being the high fault tolerance due to the many connections in the network topology.

  • Following this Bevan Machinery researched and found that the best practice, widely recommended online, was to segment logical topology into modular building blocks. This will provide easier access and a higher degree of safety in our factory’s network. Advantages such as free sharing within the factories network and free sharing between different segments will be possible using this practice.

  • Industrial switches were an essential aspect of the plan, as they provide; diagnostics, security, segmentation, time synchronization, prioritization, multicast management, loop prevention and resiliency. All these aspects are critical to the network and its ability to function effectively and efficiently.

  • The next step was to determine the network security requirements. We live in a very dangerous world, and the danger is also prevalent online. Cybercriminals can cause millions of dollars’ worth of damage to a factory if the network security is inadequate. The network security is also important for the privacy of confidential documents stored on the factory’s network. For both of these important factors, leaders in the field of cyber security will be contracted in, to ensure the security of the Bevan Machinery factory network.

  • Network jitter and network latency will be addressed by using standard network protocols. One of these protocols being the time synchronization, mentioned earlier in the industrial switches section. This will provide reduced latency and jitter in the factory network.

  • Following this, Bevan Machinery will look to increase control and information data availability. This will be achieved, by following top rated advice, using a redundant path network topology. This approach will also assist in recovery of the network from a disruption, and aid in the future readiness of the network.

  • Finally, the factory network will constantly be monitored, updated, improved upon and evolve to meet the needs of the factory. Network support will play a major role in this task, as well as keeping the network operational in the day-to-day work environment. This will ensure the Bevan Machinery factory’s network is an industry leader into the future.

Part 2:

What?

In the Bevan Machinery Factory, we are planning to network our entire factory. This encompasses all the manufacturing machines used to create our products, our team members, workstations, entry and exit points, as well as the administration section in the factory.

Why?

This approach will allow the maximum possible efficiency and total digital control of the factory. The computer graphics in IE component of the factory, the display screens, will allow all members of the factory to operate at the maximum possible efficiency. This will also be achieved through real time quality feedback and real time feed back sensor control. This will aid in security of the factory network as well.

How?

The easiest way to ensure a solid factory network is to build the network integrated into the factory from the start. This will mean an integrated and functional network that will be able to adapt to the changes in the factory.

China being carbon neutral by 2060.

Despite the promising read on the website, further research shows that China is still heavily investing in coal, with a brand-new power station still under construction and coal use still an enormous economic driver in the northeast of the country. There is no doubting that China has invested in green energy way more than any other nation, but to meet its pledge of carbon neutral by 2060 they should start devesting and stop being economically dependent on coal. Other countries should also take notes from how much green energy is being invested in and do more in their home countries.

General electric exiting the new coal power generation scene.

General electrics pledge to not create new coal power station deals is the sort of push from big business that the earth needs if we have a chance of making it. If big business can show that is if profitable to leave the fossil fuel old economic ways in the past and create new green business that promotes new life and sustainability. This will have a ripple effect, causing other businesses to do the same and pressuring the government to move to a sustainable future where we are growing the planet, not killing it.

Elon Musks’ Neuralink wireless implant.

Skepticism crept in with this situation, having seen all the terminator movies and being conditioned by science fiction to be rather cautious with this tech moving forward. There is a major upside of this tech going forwards, with regards to prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation (medical procedures).  But, as with all the internet, it will be a two-way access. This means that someone else could have access to your body/brain. This is a sacred space that was not designed to be intruded in this way. Although, as stated, there are big benefits of this tech moving forward for many people. When gaming applications of this implant were brought up, then people were persuaded on the idea and could not wait to try one out for gaming purposes.
