ASSIGNMENT 1

Autonomous aircraft assembly machines that can work synchronously, in close proximity to human workers.

Background & product:

Close proximity will be achieved using the new tech shown in the video we saw in class about the new technology happening in the field of robotics and the robot developed with a sensory skin. This will enable the close working environment that is needed when constructing aircraft (small/tight spaces where humans can work on more technical issues and have the robot complete the more remedial tasks). Having the robots complete the remedial, but vital tasks, will be more efficient and safer for the aircraft, as it will ensure every rivet is in the correct place. An additional benefit of the machine is that it can be customized to work in almost every position required to construct an aircraft and ensure consistency and safety in hard to reach places. It will also aid in the design of new aircraft, as previously unbuildable aircraft can now be built with these machines and new design methods.

Company:

Bevan Machinery will be the company name.

Manufacture and install our own green, close human proximity aircraft manufacturing robots. Our factory will be completely off grid and even produce power to supply back into the grid and offset some of the impact of other people on the environment. We will be working closely with FANUC on the parts required for our robots, as they supply both parts for high repetition processes and high precision processes. The company will be sourcing some parts from Automation Direct, a leader in the field of controls for machinery. The company will use FESTO engineering tools in the design process of our aircraft manufacturing robots. Finally, the company will work in conjunction with Rockwell Automation to provide an integrated product solution to the growing needs of the future of aircraft manufacturing. The Company will be a completely unbiased and equal opportunity employer company with respect to race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, military service etc. as being ethical in all manners, especially hiring the right people, irrespective of differences.

The main branch in the USA will be in Seattle Washington, near to the main Boeing factory plant. Our foreign branch will be in Toulouse, France, near the Airbus main assembly plant.

Green initiative:

The company will have a fully self-sufficient system that can be sold to the customer. That is, to have a fully green system that consists of solar/wind/water power generating systems depending on where the factory of the customer is located. Take Boeing’s manufacturing plant in Seattle, Washington for example, in this case we will not sell a solar panel version (as Seattle does not get enough sunlight) to Boeing, but rather a wind or hydroelectric version that will be more suited to harness the environmental energy in Seattle, without creating any environmental impact. This will ensure productivity, even if the plant is experiencing a power cut, the robots can continue to work, even creating sufficient power to keep vital systems intact so that the factory can operate.

The company will only source from other companies that are green or will be completely green in the near future, any supplier that is not totally green by 2035 will be removed from our suppliers list.

Utilizing computer graphics & IE:

The machines will have display screens that show exactly what they are working on and where they are in the process, as well as where all the other machines are and where they are in their processes. This will ensure that all workers and robots will be on the same page with where exactly every machine and human is in the process. With this information, the machines and the company will be able to increase efficiency tenfold in these aircraft manufacturing companies.

Social networking:

  • Green electricity generation is something that is important for the future of the planet and should be prioritized above all other fossil fuels styles of electricity generation. If the fossil fuel companies focus entirely on green sources and leave fossil fuels, this will bridge the gap in the cost of the green electricity. A possible solution for NJIT to become greener will be to place solar panels and wind harvesting green electricity production on the roofs of all buildings on the NJIT campus.

  • Automation in the assembly process has shown to be very valuably now in the Covid-19 times, as there is no contamination from humans in the assembly line, leading to companies being able to keep production up and meet demand for their products in a safe manner.

  • Autonomous vehicles will play a big part in the future of mobility, as the next phase of how people move around. It has been shown to be safer and more efficient than human drivers, this will save human lives. An example is in the trucking industry, vehicles will be able to drive non-stop across the country with a human as the support role to the autonomous vehicle. The savings from being more efficient and environmentally friendly will be very great for business in the future.
